Buying a Used iPhone: Check Activation Lock First

If an iPhone offer involves a previously owned unit, check its account-association status before accepting it. A working screen, a seller’s invoice or the word “unlocked” does not answer every ownership-readiness question. Identify what has actually been checked on the offered phone and which matters remain unresolved.

Know which lock the seller means

Apple’s Activation Lock guidance explains that the feature is connected with Find My and protects a device against unauthorised use. Apple advises against taking ownership of a used iPhone that remains protected by Activation Lock. Treat that as a buying condition, rather than a feature to work around after payment.

A carrier-lock statement concerns mobile-network use. PTA status concerns a separate local network-registration question. Neither is proof that a previous owner’s Apple Account is no longer associated with the phone. Keep all three answers separate in the supplied-unit record.

Ask for legitimate readiness evidence

Apple’s preowned-iPhone buying guide says that the Hello screen indicates an erased device and that setup, including activation, is still needed. A photograph of that screen alone should not be presented as completion of every buying check. Ask the seller to arrange the appropriate legitimate verification for the actual unit.

If setup asks for a previous owner’s Apple Account, or the phone shows “iPhone Locked to Owner”, leave the purchase unresolved with the seller. Follow Apple’s official buying guidance. Do not accept a promise that an unrelated repair shop, software tool or later payment will make the account question disappear.

Keep account control with the rightful owner

The seller or rightful account holder should handle their own account through Apple’s supported process. Do not ask for their password, copy their personal information or use their account as your own. If they cannot resolve the association legitimately, do not treat the phone as ready for transfer.

For an arranged inspection, agree on the scope before any setup or personal sign-in. Use only authorised steps and follow the device maker’s instructions. This article provides no bypass method, borrowed-account arrangement or device-erasure service.

Record the result without collecting credentials

  • Offer identity: the actual model, capacity, stated condition and private unit reference.
  • Account readiness: what legitimate check was completed and any unresolved prompt.
  • Separate network evidence: the applicable carrier and PTA checks.
  • Separate condition evidence: the agreed inspection and repair-history disclosure.
  • Transaction terms: the actual seller, accepted condition and applicable return or resolution route.

Keep private device identifiers in the appropriate transaction record. A useful note describes the outcome; it does not contain an Apple Account password, screen passcode, verification code or another person’s photographs. Do not send such information in an initial product enquiry.

Continue the other buying checks separately

The imported-iPhone network-readiness guide covers regional hardware, carrier status and eSIM questions. The parts-history guide covers the supported component record. Successful account readiness does not establish a battery condition, genuine replacement part, warranty entitlement or local network eligibility.

If the proposed unit changes, repeat the relevant evidence request for the replacement. A demonstration on one iPhone does not approve a different unit with the same model name. Keep the condition and private identifying record aligned with the final quotation.

Request the right unit and purchase terms

Use Request a Product with the iPhone model, capacity, city and required condition, and mention that legitimate new-owner readiness needs confirmation where applicable. This does not establish that a used unit is stocked or sourceable. Through the credit-card phone buying guide, eligible credit-card holders across Pakistan can clarify the separate purchase route and complete quotation.

A product request neither reserves a device nor approves financing. Resolve the actual unit’s account, network and condition questions before treating a broad “unlocked iPhone” description as an accepted offer.
